Christ's fulfillment of the law
Our inability to keep God's law is not due to a defect in the law, but in us. "We know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin" (Romans 7:14). But the good news is that "God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit" (Romans 8:3-4). God sent his Son in the weakness of our humanness, so that in his death he could condemn sin's domination in us. Now we can begin to live in Christ's fulfillment of the law for us as we walk by the Spirit. Isn't it amazing how powerfully and graciously God has done for us what we could never have done for ourselves?
