Don’t lie, but speak and live truth
“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” Why did God not just say “you shall not lie”? in other words, what is specifically wicked about bearing false witness against someone? 1 Kings 21:1-19. Matthew 26:59-62.
Why is it so easy for us to justify lying? Why is lying so common? Isaiah 59:14; Jeremiah 9:5.
What is the origin of lying? John 8:44-45. Matthew 15:19-20a.
What are examples of ways or situations that we lie? What are ways that we often are exposed to lies?
How valuable is truth? Proverbs 23:23.
How central is truth to the Christian faith? John 5:31-34; 8:31-32; 14:6, 17; 15:26; 16:13; 17:17; 18:37-38. Ephesians 4:15, 25; Colossians 3:9; 2 Thessalonians 2:10–13.
What are ways we avoid sharing the truth about our lives with our church family? What are the consequences of this?
